HarmarVillage Care Center is a comprehensive skilled nursing facility dedicated to providing high-quality whole-patient care. Through its comprehensive onsite services including cardiac, orthopedic, wound and memory support, HarmarVillage has come to revolutionize senior care in Allegheny County, helping its clients maximize their health, well-being and overall quality of life during these critical elder years. As our center continues to grow and evolve, we are currently seeking Resident Assistants to join our team to assist with the indirect care of residents, as directed by the nurse or supervisor.  The Resident Assistant assists in maintaining the highest degree of quality care for geriatric residents and residents of various ages. Resident Assistants will receive first consideration for admission to our Nurse Aide Training Certification Program starting early July!

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Resident Assistant include:

  • Attends work according to facility policy.
  • Answers resident call bells in a timely manner, obtaining assistance as needed.
  • Makes beds and organizes resident’s room.
  • Distribution and set-up of meal trays. Compares diet trays with diet orders before serving. Removes trays after meal completion.
  • After completion of Feeding Assistant Program, feeds residents as necessary.  Correctly documents resident  food and fluid consumption via EHR.
  • Assists with distribution of snacks.
  • Distributes ice and water pitchers.
  • Responds immediately to emergency situations according to policy.
  • Reports any changes observed in condition or behavior of residents and unusual incidents.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with the State regulations and the residents/patients Bill of Rights.
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident information at all times.
  • Reports any allegation of resident abuse in any form to immediate supervisor.
  • Provides individualized nursing care to geriatric residents and residents of various ages according to resident care plan.
  • Communicates effectively with residents’ family members and members of the health care team.
  • Assists with recreational activities as directed.
  • Assists in transporting residents to dining areas, activities, other departments, prn.
  • Assists in preparation of unit, room for admissions/discharges.
  • Follows standard precautions in the care of all residents/patients and abide by the established infection control policies of the facility.
  • Complies with the Facilities Infection Control policies and procedures including Body Substance Isolation (BSI) and the Exposure Control Plan which reflects OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard to ensure a safe working environment for self and others.
  • Practices careful, efficient, and non-wasteful use of supplies and linen and follows established charge procedure for chargeable items.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, safe environment by cleaning equipment as directed, handling clean and soiled linen appropriately, reporting faulty equipment, and storing supplies on unit appropriately, etc.
  • Anticipates and takes action to maintain a safe environment. Incorporates safety/risk management standards into daily work practices.  Uses all safety equipment provided appropriately.  Reports faulty equipment/problems immediately.
  • Timely completion of assigned competencies to ensure proficiency in skill sets necessary to assure resident safety, and to attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident.
  • Assists in orientation of new personnel as assigned.
  • Attends mandatory inservices and staff meetings geared toward geriatric residents and residents of various ages and incorporates information into daily duties.
  • Reports any suspected or known resident abuse to Director of Nursing or Administrator immediately.
  • Reports for work as scheduled and consistently demonstrates dependability and punctuality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

Resident Assistant candidates must have the ability to read and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.  Some clerical ability necessary. Must be a team player and able to develop and maintin good interpersonal relationships with residents, families and co-workers. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent preferred. Vaccination from Covid-19 is a condition for hiring, except where a bona fide religious or medical exemption is submitted. Prefer candidates with previous resident care or health care experience.
