Full Time – Daylight Hours - Altoona, PA

 

Altoona Center for Nursing Care is a comprehensive skilled nursing facility dedicated to providing high-quality whole-patient care. Through its comprehensive onsite services including cardiac, orthopedic, wound and memory support, Altoona has come to revolutionize senior care, helping its clients maximize their health, well-being and overall quality of life during these critical elder years. To continue its ongoing growth and development, our center seeks an experienced Activities Director to fill a senior-level supervisory role in our thriving activities department. The Activities Director will be responsible for steering the overall direction of the unit, in accordance with established standards and best practices

Responsibilities

Day-to-day responsibilities of the Activities Director include:

  • Organizing, developing and directing operations for the activities unit
  • Assuring an ongoing schedule of well-attended activities, in the center and in the community
  • Ensuring the utmost safety and comfort of residents participating and activities, working in tandem with medical staff, as needed
  • Assisting with activities as well as transportation and participant support, as needed
  • Maintaining the departmental budget, including food, vendor allocations, purchasing, travel costs and general expenses
  • Recruiting, hiring and training activities staff and volunteers, and conducting ongoing reviews/appraisals to ensure peak performance
  • Serving on various committees within Altoona Center for Nursing Care, and speaking on behalf of the activities unit
  • Working with staff on a regular basis to evaluate existing activities and determine appropriate programming based on current resident needs and requests
  • Associate Degree in O.T., Therapeutic Recreation, or NAAPA certification, or be a qualified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or an Activities Professional who is licensed by Pennsylvania and is eligible for certification as a Recreation Specialist or as an Activities Professional required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a social or recreation program within the last five (5) years, two (2) of which was full time in a patient activities program in a health care setting required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience required

Qualifications

All candidates must have prior experience in supervision of staff, planning and conducting group activities, and must have current eligibility as a Certfied Activities Director or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, including two years of experience and approved training course completed, or bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or C.O.T.A. NCCAP or CTRS certification is required. Candidates must be a competent manager, creative, have good communication skills, be self-motivated, dependable and attentive to needs and wants of residents.
