Graciano Corporation is currently accepting resumes for a full time Estimator.  This position, a key contributor to the company’s growth and profitabiltiy, is responsible for all pre-construction activities for new jobs, to include accurate development and compilation of project cost estimates and the preparation of company bid proposals through blueprint takeoff, material pricing, and labor analysis for competitive bidding projects as well as conceptual estimating projects.   The position interfaces with external construction directors and managers, engineers and architects in the development of cost estimates.  Additionally, the position coordinates with internal project managers and other operations personnel to ensure  members when when necessary for changed work cost resolution.

 

Responsibilities

  • Seeks job leads individually on a weekly basis through company-approved lead sites and organizations.
  • Prioritizes weekly job leads forwarded from the company’s business development/customer relationship manager, as well individually identified leads to ascertain completeness of project information and evaluates viability of pursuing the projects.
  • For viable projects, commences estimating and bid proposal tasks according to established timelines and deadlines.
  • Upon obtaining project leads, ascertain completeness of project information and evaluates viability of pursuing the project.
  • Prepares construction estimates by studying plans, performing and compiling quantity takeoffs, organizing trade scopes of work  and determine bond requirements for complete bids through sound mathematical calculations and utilization of the company’s proven cost-estimating methods and Microsoft Excel software.
  • Solicits and qualifies subcontractor and vendor bids by providing appropriate material and services required; negotiates price, delivery and other agreement terms.
  • Visits project sites to survey project site, take digital photographs; attends pre-bid and other related project meetings with customers/prospective customers that provide information regarding the scope and specifications for each project.
  • Creation and tracking of project change orders; participation in resolution of cost discrepancies through collecting and analyzing relevant data and cost figures.

Qualifications

Skills & Abilities needed:

  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the commercial construction industry; ability to complete AIA documents and forms.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications for construction projects; adept in the usage of computer estimating systems.
  • Excellent mathematical and problem-solving skills; ability to make sound judgment calls with limited information and data.
  • Ability to follow company’s internal instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform all functions of the job.
  • Ability to draft and proofread technical and business documents, including the use of appropriate language, correct grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, including the development and management of timelines and deadlines that allow for appropriate time for internal reivew of proposals and meeting external deadlines.
  • Formal presentation experience preferably with Microsoft Powerpoint.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.

     Qualifications:

  • BS degree in engineering, construction sciences, construction management or business or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of two years’ estimating experience preferably performing bids ranging from $500,000+.
  • Conceptual, lump sum, time & materials estimating skills; design build experience a plus.
  • Working knowledge of institutional, government and private sector markets.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and Powerpoint; knowledge of Primavera and ACT! software preferred.
