    Located in Dauphin County, just ten minutes from downtown Harrisburg and near five major hospitals, Colonial Park Care Center is a 198-bed Skilled Nursing Center offering an expansive mix of services rarely found under one roof. Our beautifully landscaped grounds allow those who are able, to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family who visit.

     

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities of the Director of Nursing (DON):

     

    1. Assumes responsibility for the development of nursing service objectives, performance standards of nursing practice for each category of nursing personnel, and nursing policies and procedures.
    2. Assumes accountability for the development, organization and implementation of approved policies and procedures.
    3. Evaluates resident care as related to individual resident needs, family involvement and the physician’s plan of care for the resident.
    4. Assesses resident responses to medication and treatment, and makes appropriate recommendations for nursing action to be implemented.
    5. Reports problems to the Administrator, conducts daily resident rounds and initiates corrective action as necessary.
    6. Directs and implements nursing service educational programs geared toward geriatric residents and residents of various ages including, but not limited to, orientation and in-service for licensed and unlicensed nursing personnel.
    7. Conducts staff meetings with all shifts monthly for purposes of planning, coordinating and implementing nursing service policies and procedures.
    8. Demonstrates consistent ability to manage nursing service problems, emergency situations, and initiates “lifesaving” measures in the absence of a physician.
    9. Participates in the planning and implementation of the nursing service budget; consistently operates nursing service within the budget guidelines established.
    10. Directs allocation of nursing service equipment and supplies within the facility and establishes guidelines for efficient, economical utilization of supplies and equipment; insures availability of equipment for nursing personnel.
    11. Assess equipment and supply needs and makes recommendations to Administrator.
    12. Coordinates Performance Improvement Program (QAPI) for the facility.
    13. Recommends the number and level of personnel to be employed to the Administrator. Responsible for recommending the interviewing, hiring, suspending, discharging and disciplining of employees. Administers disciplinary action in fair, equitable manner as needed. Resolves and/or participates in the resolutions of grievances.
    14. Prepares written employee performance evaluations and approves recommendations for salary increases, promotions, or terminations.
    15. Establishes open lines of communication with consultants and consistently takes follow up action on recommendations seeking to constantly improve care and services.

     

     

    Qualifications

    Qualifications of the Director of Nursing (DON):

     

    1. Current Pennsylvania RN license.
    2. Bachelors in health related field preferred.
    3. Evidence of Progressive Supervisory or Administrative Experience in a long term care setting preferred.
    4. Understanding of and ability to use Point Click Care electronic chart application.
