Experienced, hands-on ACTIVITY DIRECTOR needed to oversee growing department

Highland Park Care Center is a comprehensive skilled nursing facility dedicated to providing high-quality whole-patient care. Through its comprehensive onsite services including cardiac, orthopedic, wound and memory support, our center has come to revolutionize senior care in Allegheny County, helping its clients maximize their health, well-being and overall quality of life during these critical elder years.

Crucial to this whole-patient approach is the thriving activities department, under the leadership of the Director of Activities. This senior-level role supervises activities staff and volunteers, and will be responsible for steering the overall direction of the unit, in accordance with established standards and best practices.

    Day-to-day responsibilities include:

    •      Organizing, developing and directing operations for the activities unit
    •      Assuring an ongoing schedule of well-attended activities, in the center and in the community
    •      Ensuring the utmost safety and comfort of residents participating and activities, working in tandem with medical staff, as needed
    •      Assisting with activities as well as transportation and participant support, as needed
    •      Maintaining the departmental budget, including food, vendor allocations, purchasing, travel costs and general expenses
    •      Recruiting, hiring and training activities staff and volunteers, and conducting ongoing reviews/appraisals to ensure peak performance
    •      Serving on various committees within our center, and speaking on behalf of the activities unit
    •      Working with staff on a regular basis to evaluate existing activities and determine appropriate programming based on current resident needs and requests

All candidates should be therapeutic recreation specialists or activities professionals, with appropriate licensing/credentialing and training and at least four years of experience across relevant social/recreation and healthcare environments. A strong working knowledge of basic computer use and software/programs is essential and, because of the nature of this community, a dedication to senior service, patience and compassion are essential.
